ABOUT ME

My name is Belmina Malagic and I am a 17-year-old senior at Sport and Medical Sciences Academy in Hartford, Connecticut. At a young age I started to develop a new found love for education. Since my parents were immigrants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, they believed there was a success in education through a hard working attitude. I would take the extra classes and be mesmerized by lessons taught. This is when I realized that I wanted to dedicate my capstone to showing the importance of education and it's impacts.

I reached out to the United Nation International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to express my gratitude for the work their organization has done. I presented to the entire high school about education in the U.S. compared internationally and UNICEF's organization. I initially was to host a "Change for Change" drive with advisory classes to donate to UNICEF and give the kids at the Bosnian American Islamic Cultural Center (BAICC) a new perspective on not only school education, but religious education as well. Due to complications, these events couldn't occur. Instead I thought virtually and create an "I promise..." video with students of all ages vouching to continue their educations. This video also included a gallery walk of artwork showing what education means to different people. My capstone was dedicated to spreading gratitude and valuing the things we don't realize are taken for granted, especially education.

Mission Statement

My mission is to leave a sense of gratitude on others and show them that, rather than making excuses, they can take advantage of their opportunities and prosper. I value the idea of working diligently for success. I truly want what's best for not only me or the people in my life, but the people just passing by. Success, in my book, comes from self-satisfaction and the will to lead. I wish to live a successful life through my own effort and the chances I take to aid others in progressing.
